ATHLETIC PROGRAMCamp Cayuga’s Athletic Program is noncompetitive in nature and philosophy. Our land sport activities stress self-improvement with emphasis on instruction rather than competition. Quality instruction takes into account the different skill levels of each camper.INDIVIDUAL & TEAM SPORTSCayuga’s Athletic Department is supervised by the Athletic Director who is a professional educator and coach. All instruction is monitored by the Athletic Director and provided by our Activity Specialists who are college-enrolled students, graduate students, and young certified teachers. Our instructors have been selected for their experience in the sport as both a competitor (player) and a teacher (coach). All instructors have current certifications and/or documented experience teaching children the fundamentals in the activity for which they have been hired. INSTRUCTION Daily instruction is geared to the camper’s individual skill level. Instruction is patient and thorough with due regard for both safety and enjoyment. Instruction typically takes place during the first-half of each activity period. Recreational play-time is allotted for the remaining portion of the period. In addition, “practice time” is scheduled for intercamp tournament teams. VOLUNTARY COMPETITION Although Cayuga is noncompetitive in nature, healthy competition does find its way into the daily activity program on a voluntary basis through our Intercamp Tournament Program. Since there are no “try-outs” for joining teams at Cayuga, all campers are eligible to participate in any tournament of their choice regardless of their athletic ability. Competition is voluntary so you can sign-up for as many teams as you wish (or no teams at all). Emphasis is placed on sportsmanship and having fun, rather than winning. However, our camp tournament record includes more wins than losses! INTERCAMP TOURNAMENTS We schedule over 120 different tournaments each summer! About 50% of our tournaments are scheduled as “away games”. This affords our campers the opportunity to travel to other neighboring camps in Wayne County. The remaining tournaments are scheduled as “home games” which take place at Camp Cayuga. To compete in your favorite sport, all you have to do is sign up for the team at camp. Cayuga’s Intercamp Tournament Program is a great way to add a little "camp spirit" to your summer and widen your travels as well. TOURNAMENT TEAMS Cayuga offers an Intercamp Tournament Team for every Popular land sport, including “team” sports and “individual” sports. Most teams are organized according to camper’s grade & gender. Some teams are coed. Cayuga’s Intercamp Tournament Program is comprised of the following teams:
