CREATIVE ARTS PROGRAM

Cayuga’s Creative Arts Program features a broad spectrum of activities which provide campers the opportunity to artistically express themselves. There’s so much to do at the Creative Arts Pavilion!

INSTRUCTION
Instruction is patient and geared to the camper’s individual skill level. It doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner at painting or an expert at pottery, our Creative Arts Instructors are talented and experienced in teaching all levels of art expression to children of all ages.

ART PROJECTS
Our Creative Arts Program includes a variety of art projects including: pottery (throwing pots), ceramics (glazing & firing), clay work (sculpting), t-shirt creations (tye dyeing, air brushing, fabric painting, & silk screening), painting (water color & acrylics), drawing, sketching (charcoal pencils), jewelry making, beading, basket weaving, lanyards & braiding, macramé, paper mache & plaster projects, wood projects, copper enameling, block printing, needle craft, mask making, decoupage, model rocketry (building and launching Estes rockets), and nature crafts.

CREATIVE ARTS STAFF
The Creative Arts Program is headed-up by Cayuga’s Creative Arts Directors and their assistants. The Co-Directors are typically certified art teachers during the school year who are experienced in teaching art expression at all levels. Assisting the Creative Arts Directors are 8 to 10 university-level instructors who are majoring in art and/or have documented experience teaching art to children.

FACILITIES
The Junior Campus Creative Arts Pavilion (measuring 150’ by 50’) features a Pottery Room with 15 pottery wheels, a Kiln Room with 3 kilns, a fully-equipped Photography Darkroom, and over 6000 square feet of indoor work space for campers to create & display their art projects. The Teen Campus Art Pavilion (measuring 65’ by 30’) includes a Pottery Area with 4 pottery wheels, a Kiln Room, and an art project area measuring about 1800 square feet.

MEDIA ARTS PROGRAM

In addition to art projects, four other activities take place at or near the Creative Arts Pavilion: Photography, Camp Newspaper, Video Camera Filming, and Radio Broadcasting.

PHOTOGRAPHY
The Photography Activity includes instruction in camera use, darkroom procedures, developing negatives, and printing photographs. Cayuga supplies (at no extra charge) the cameras, film, and all other equipment needed for developing black and white photographs.

CAMP NEWSPAPER
The Camp Newspaper Activity provides campers with an opportunity to express themselves through creative writing. Campers voluntarily select “assignments” which involve researching the facts, conducting personal interviews, and writing a summary article for the Cayuga Chronicle, our camp newspaper.

VIDEO CAMERA FILMING
During the Video Camera Filming Activity, campers will learn how to properly operate a video camera and create video movies outdoors.
