ELECTIVE PROGRAM - 100% FREE CHOICE

Campers entering 5th grade and higher participate in Cayuga's Elective Program. It's a "free-choice" program that provides an opportunity for campers to explore their individual interests, and encourages campers to pursue those interests they find most challenging. Campers design their own activity schedule on a daily basis by selecting from over 60 different activities! Parents, who want their camper to attend certain activities, can complete an Activity Control Form. The activities selected on this form will be pre-assigned to the camper and will appear on his Activity Card for the number of periods requested.  Please note that on certain Special Event days (Olympics, Beach Bash, Carnival, Boating Regatta, Amusement Park Trips, etc.), campers do not have the opportunity to participate in the regular activities that are typically offered on a daily basis.  

DAILY SIGN-UP PROCEDURE
Each day after breakfast campers who are Intermediates, Seniors and Super-Seniors attend an Elective Signup Period during which they plan their individual activity schedule for the day. Campers are given Activity Cards on which to write-down the activities they've selected and the time/period for each activity. When the activity name and period is written on the camper's Activity Card, the camper's name is simultaneously added to the Instructor's Activity Roster for attendance purposes. Campers signup for activities with their cabinmates and other campers in their age group. This allows campers to plan their daily schedule with all their friends! Cayuga's Program Staff provides guidance during the signup period and will assist campers in planning their activity schedule.

PROGRAM SUPERVISION
Instructors are stationed at each activity site and are responsible for supervising the campers during the activity period. The instructor is given an Activity Roster for each period and uses it to take attendance. The Elective Program Staff collects the Activity Rosters at the beginning of each period and ensures all campers are present at their activities. They supervise the campers as they travel to/from the activity sites, and also help campers who may need assistance with their activity schedule. The Elective Program Staff have copies of all Activity Rosters and will notify the appropriate instructor whenever a roster has been revised. All campers are accounted for at all times!
