ELECTIVE PROGRAM - 100% FREE CHOICE

Campers entering 5th grade and higher participate in Cayuga’s Elective Program. It’s a “free-choice” program where campers design their own activity schedule on a daily basis by selecting from over 60 different daily activities. Cayuga’s Elective Program gives campers the opportunity to explore their individual interests and encourages each camper to pursue those interests he/she finds most challenging.

SIGN-UP PROCEDURES
Each day after breakfast campers who are Intermediates, Seniors, & Super-Seniors, attend an Elective Signup Period during which they plan their own activity schedule for the day. Campers are given Activity Cards on which to write-down the activities they’ve selected and the time/period for each activity. When the activity name and period is written on the camper’s Activity Card, the camper’s name is simultaneously added to the Instructor’s Activity Roster for attendance purposes. Campers sign-up for activities with their cabin-mates and other campers in their age group. This allows campers to plan their daily schedule with all their friends! Cayuga’s Program Staff provide guidance during the signup period and assist campers in planning their activity schedule. Parents with campers residing on “Junior Campus” have the option of controlling their child’s activity selections by completing an Activity Control Form prior to camp. On this form parents indicate which activities (if any) must be attended and how often their child must attend them.

PROGRAM SUPERVISION
Instructors are stationed at each activity site and are responsible for supervising the campers during the activity period. Our Program Staff supervise and assist campers with their activity/program questions between periods while they travel to/from the activity sites. (Campers are given 5 to 10 minutes for travel time.) Each instructor is provided with an activity roster for each period and is required to take attendance. Our Attendance Staff are responsible for collecting attendance rosters from the instructors at the beginning of each period and insuring that campers are present at the appropriate activity. FYI: The Program Staff have copies of all activity rosters for each period of the day and revise these rosters when necessary. Instructors are notified by the Program Staff regarding any changes to their activity rosters.
