This summer you can take a trip to watch the Scranton/Wilkesbarre RailRiders play at PNC Stadium, which is less than an hour from camp. The RailRiders are a minor league AAA baseball team affiliated with the New York Yankees. AAA baseball games usually record more hits and runs compared to major league games, making each game more exciting for everyone. On occasion, campers will have the opportunity to meet with one of the ball players, perhaps a star player of the future! This summer the RailRiders will be playing popular AAA teams including the Charlotte Knights (Chicago White Sox), Columbus Clippers (Cleveland Indians), Rochester Red Wings (Minnesota Twins), and Buffalo Bisons (Toronto Blue Jays).
All campers are eligible to attend AAA Baseball Games. No advance registration is necessary. If you’re entering 4th grade or lower, you can attend ‘day’ games. If entering 5th grade or higher, you can attend both day and night games. Baseball trips returning from ‘night’ games usually arrive back at camp about an hour after curfew. To attend a baseball game, simply tell your division director or sign-up for the trip during the elective sign-up period in the morning.
The home-game summer schedule for the RailRiders will dictate how many baseball trips we take this summer. We generally attend one or two games every two weeks. To see this summer’s dates for baseball game trips, go to Calendar of Events. Baseball trips are optional and not included in the tuition. The trip fee includes a fast-food meal en route to the stadium, ball park admission, and transportation.
